Majority of this walk is set back away from the road. the start and end follow a busy road but have safe sidewalks.

Other considerations

Check out Wentworth's cafes and shops and don't miss a stop at Elsecar Park. It has a shop, toilets, mini golf, football field and beautiful gardens.

starting your walk, exit the car park, turning right back onto Main Street.

After a short distance you’ll want to turn right onto Clayfield Lane, opposite the red phone box.

Directly ahead you’ll see a stile. with enough space for your four-legged friend to pass through continue up.

Embark on a narrow path to the cross section where the path splits, take the harder to see route straight ahead. Look out for the metal gate andfollow this to the right.

Eventually bringing you out into the large field, using the Visible dirt path to guide you along.

Making your way into the woodland with the fence on your right, follow the bend round to the left, continue through here bringing you out into a wild field with a easily recognisable path that cuts through to more woodland on the opposite side.

 

Turn left, taking you towards Elsecar.

Bringing you out opposite Elsecar park, Cross the road and enter the beautiful and tranquil park.

when you’re ready head back the same way, crossing the road, back through the woodland turning right back into the wild field except this time instead of cutting across follow the path that edges the woodland to the left.

Edge your way around, entering yet another wooded area. continue straight ahead over the stile, bringing you into farm land. 

The path becomes a little less visible here, cutting directly across the farm land you’ll have another 3 stiles (most dogs should be able to cope with these at the time of writing).

After passing the 3rd stile its smooth sailing from here.

Soaking in the beautiful views, following the path that edges the wheat field. 

On the right you will arrive at the impressive needles eyes.

Needles eye is a 14-metre (46 ft) pyramid Grade II* listed building

Allegedly the Needle’s Eye in Wentworth Woodhouse was built in the early 18th-century to win a bet as the second Marquees Rockingham claimed he could drive a coach and horse through the eye of a needle.

A short distance after Needles Eyes, turn right through the gate and following is road round to the right and back to the car park.
